The Spiritual Pillar

In the Old Testament of the Bible there lived a wise King named Solomon. He pleased God from a young age and one day, early on in his reign, God appeared to him in a dream.

‘Ask what you would like me to give you.’

Solomon replied.

‘Grant me an obedient heart to judge your people, to discern between good and bad.’

God was so pleased with this answer that he not only granted him the wisdom to lead a nation, but the wealth, fame, and glory to go along with it.

Okay. Cool. Good for Solomon.

Though Solomon was not able to share his tangible blessings with us. He did share priceless wisdom for all who seek it.

Solomon asked the big questions of life. What is our purpose? Why are we truly here? What is the meaning of all of this?

And you might be surprised with what he came up with…

It’s All Meaningless, Like Chasing the Wind

Solomon sought out the very best and the very worst things in life. He observed young and old, rich and poor, good and bad, kings and servants, the wise and the fools.

After all of this study and observation. After all of this seeking of wisdom. He only came up with one conclusion.

We’re all going to die.

Nice one Solomon.

So, why are we here then? What is our purpose? What is the meaning of all this? These questions will be answered in due time, but for now just remember this.

Start with the end in mind.

The End

Pillar 1 is coming to terms with the fact that we’re all going to die. It is accepting the fact, as Solomon did, that we are all just chasing the wind.

Everything we do will be forgotten, everything we acquire will turn to dust, and everything we love will perish too.

This is a tough, but necessary pill to swallow. No matter who or what you believe in, you must accept this fact and understand just how ironic life is. What a cruel sick joke it is.

It is only here, at the end, that you can begin to discover meaning in this meaningless life.
